Let's first look at the front-end wet chemicals in these problem/training related postings. In all cases it is important that when a technical representative visits they start with a front-end audit to assess the plants condition and to try and spot any problems the plant is having. In many cases you will find that as the plant personnel are local to the audited area the visitor will see more as a fresh pair of eyes; you will be astounded at how many obvious problems are not noticed due to familiarity. There is an old story of a trainer after day 2 of a week-long session placed an empty drum in front of the entrance to the training room, at the end of the week he asked what had changed during the week and no-one remembered the drum, they had readjusted their route to travel round the drum and then it became normal - familiar. The audit procedure and what to look for will assist you in spotting the root cause of many problems. In the lubricant world it had become the usual for all the world's problems to be laid at the feet of the lubricant supplier necessitating a much more pro-active approach to the way they dealt with problems. In my early years it was acceptable to walk into a plant and say that the lubricants were in specification and posed no problems - then leave; now, quite rightly so given the brain drain of retirement and changes, this is seen as an excuse. It has become important now to not only negate the lubricant as an issue but to find the real cause and in many cases assist with its rectification. As we see this brain drain now in the supplier field and acquisitions have reduced competition these skills are in short supply, a new era of competition is necessary to reactivate skilled chemical engineers with experience being hired and retained. It was always my training of engineers to enter a plant with the mentality that there is a problem and to search it out before the plant does.A forward thinking or pro-active engineer will often find a problem before it has occurred thus saving unnecessary emotions downtime and credibility. Always remember that when you are called to rectify and issue the plant has already spent hours or shifts already trying to find the base cause, emotions are high and tiredness usually rampant.

I see many industry influencers giving an overview of the can line, this is admirable but here at Tolag we focus on training and problem solving. We at Tolag believe that using all the senses, that is to say; see, hear, feel and thought all enhance what we are learning so we prefer to work on site auditing, problem solving while training. It is important to note that while we can standardize many things all plants are individual and as such may need to have some of our criteria changed to satisfy their particular problems. Plants will vary in their geographical location, machines, floor layout, can size and production speed. The needs of a plant in Malaysia may not be necessarily the needs of a plant in Denver or Turkey. It is important that we are involved on a face-to-face basis at some point so we can audit your systems and then be sensitive to your individual needs.

Why are print magazines still thriving despite predictions that the digital age would make them irrelevant? Here are my thoughts. #LinkedInNewsAustraliaThe best media solutions embrace both digital and print, while the content can be equal and digital faster to the market it is still a human emotion to enjoy the feel and smell of paper in print. Perhaps it is an age definition or perhaps the ability to flick back a few pages to reconfirm thoughts of content or plot but like vinyl records I believe print is here to stay. As a teenager I loved the centre folds and would hang the poster of my idol in my bedroom, as a grandfather I watch my Grandson being enthralled by a book or latest magazine of his present fad, this is a safe haven for parents for their children and a calming pastime for us older individuals by the pool or in a comfortable chair.
