  • Fisher of Souls (20 FP) - 40 FP in Corruption Biome.
  • Fleshcatcher (22 FP) - 44 FP in Crimson Biome.
  • Scarab Rod (30 FP) - 50 FP in Oasis and Desert.
  • Fiberglass Fishing Pole (30 FP) - 50 FP in Jungle Biome.
  • Chum Caster (25 FP) - 50 FP on Blood Moon in any Biome. UPDATE.
  • Hotline Fishing Pole (45 FP) - Double FP when fishing in Lava AND in Underworld biome. Total 90 FP only from fishing pole. Will make Lava fishing less painful and sluggish.

All other fishing Rods are not affected, i.e. stay the same. Golden Rod has 50 FP in every Biome at any Depth.

FP = Fishing Power.

I agree that more unique effect on fishing rods is welcome, but here it may be too strong. This will make very good fishing rods like the golden fishing rod (which in another suggestion you want to make it rarer) much less useful. Also, the Hotline Fishing Pole is already a very good fishing rod for fishing in lava, its problem is that it's way too rare.

  • Okay, let's forget about suggestion about Rarer Golden Fishing Rod.
  • Golden Fishing Pole is the best anyways. Example: Scarab Pole has 50 FP in Oasis and 30 FP in every other Biome. Golden Pole has 50 FP anywhere.
  • Hotline Fishing Rod now is a burp. You can fish in lava using Lava Bait right after Evil Biome boss, you don't need this thing at all. You just can get Golden Pole + Lavaproof Bobber + Magma Snail for speed OR Master Bait for higher FP. I dare to say nobody uses Hotline Rod now, it's obsolete.
  • Excess amount of fishing power for Lava in Hardmode wouldn't be too OP, because Lava fishing is sluggish and has not thah much viable items. Plus this Rod is rare.

I really don't understand your point about Golden Rod being obsolete. Maybe you should read my idea one more time.

super good idea, means the player would need a collection of poles instead of a definitive best one

I think the idea is good and the implementation makes sense but these values are a bit over the top. I’d say only a 50% increase in each case so it would be

  • Fisher of Souls (20 FP) - 30 FP in Corruption Biome.
  • Fleshcatcher (22 FP) - 33 FP in Crimson Biome.
  • Scarab Rod (30 FP) - 45 FP in Oasis and Desert.
  • Fiberglass Fishing Pole (30 FP) - 45 FP in Jungle Biome.
  • Chum Caster (25 FP) - 38 FP on Blood Moon in any Biome. UPDATE.
  • Hotline Fishing Pole (45 FP) - 68 FP

And note that some of these are rounded up.

I don't think they should be buffed that much, but I do like the idea of fishing rods getting biome-specific buffs.

No. Golden Rod will be the best one. Golden Rod has 50% FP everywhere anytime.
But this addition will make other Rods before doing 30th Angler Quest more interesting to use.

You are greatly exaggerating my point. I didn't say at all that the golden fishing rod would become useless, just less useful, and that the effects are too strong. but otherwise, I like the idea!

I'm not exxagerating. You've said that Golden Pole will be less useful. But no, it will be as useful as it is right now. I just pointed at your mistake.
