About the School Year Calendar
The school calendar at Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is set by the school board and follows the guidance set by Minnesota law.
- At times, collective bargaining agreements impact the school calendar requiring agreement with certain staff groups.
- When possible, MPS also consults with students, families and the broader community.
- At times, we modify the school calendar which requires school board action.
- At times, the calendar may be impacted if we cancel school due to severe weather. See the severe weather page for more information.
- The school board has determined the following religious observances will cause one non-school day (generally on the first day of a multi-day observance) when they occur on what would have otherwise been a school day due to significant impact on attendance for students and families: Rosh Hashanah, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, and Yom Kippur.
- With many schools serving as polling places, for at least 2024 General Election Day on Nov. 5, the school board has determined that there should be no school. Tuesday, Nov. 5 is a teacher record keeping day.
Calendars are available at the top of this page, and when modifications are made, MPS communicates with staff and families via email, social media and other district communications.
