So has anyone clean their lo's belly button?? After the umbilical cord fell off, dd's belly button had remain dark/black (inside). I didn't want to "dig" in there to clean it so I let it be hoping the baths will eventually wash it out. It didn't. I asked the pedi at the 2 months appt if I can clean it and she said it's fine, leave it alone. It is now 4 months and it's still black. I see my friend's lo's belly button and its normal color. What do I do??!! We tried cleaning it with q-tip and rubbing alcohol but again, don't want to really dig in there... Am I the only one that has this problem? I can't seem to find a solution to this! I'm starting to get scared that it may be stained forever if I don't clean it out!!

@lil_bubble,
I cleaned real good and took all the black out...it should be fine to dig around!

@janetmp10,
Thank you for responding! What did you use to clean it? Any particular thing that makes the black come out easier?

@lil_bubble,
My lo button is like that also. But it has gotten much better than it looked before. I think it just fades over time

@lil_bubble,
Thanks for posting. I've been wondering exactly the same thing! I tried cleaning it with some soap and warm water in the bath last weekend, but it didn't seem to do much. I was afraid of cleaning too vigorously, too. I think I might try a qtip and see if it helps. I don't want DD to have a black ring inside her bellybutton forever!

@lil_bubble,
I used alcohol and a qtip on alcohol wipes (little ones that are individually packaged). I didn't rub too hard...

@lil_bubble,
I used baby oil and rub it gently with q-tip. The darker skin inside her belly button just went away. I think it was the remnant of the dead skin cell that cause it. I don't use alcohol any longer because it dries up my DD skin.

@lil_bubble,
after pregnancy I had a black belly button, prolly from stretching out so much! I couldn't get it clean until I tried a qtip with fingernail polish on it, came off like a charm!
